The BSA Lightning was designed as the all-round sports machine of the 1960's, planned largely for export to the US market to complement the touring Thunderbolt and the later development, the supersports Spitfire. Development of the engine aimed to make it more reliable, quieter and less prone to oil leaks, with top speed sacrificed to improve mid-range and rideability. Nevertheless, with twin carburetors the A65L could still reach 108 mph (174 km/h).
1982 YAMAHA XS650- Project

The Yamaha XS650 is a mid-size motorcycle made by Yamaha Motor Company. The standard model was introduced in 1968 and produced through 1979. The "Special" cruiser model was introduced in 1978 and produced through 1985. The XS650 began with the 1955 Hosk SOHC 500 twin. After about 10 years of producing 500 twin, Hosk engineers designed a 650 cc twin. Later the Hosk company was acquired by Showa Corporation, and in 1960 Yamaha had bought Showa with Hosk's early design of 650 cc twin.

When the Yamaha XS 650 was launched in 1968 it had one of the most advanced engines in its class of large parallel twin motorcycles. The engine and gearbox are unit construction with the crankcase split horizontally for ease of assembly whereas almost all contemporaries in its class in 1968 are either unit construction with a vertically split crankcase or pre-unit construction with separate engine and gearbox. The XS650's engine was used in AMA Professional Dirt Track Racing by national champion Kenny Roberts. In 1968 only the Laverda 750S, also launched that year, matched the XS 650's modernity of unit construction and SOHC valve operation.

The Honda CB750 is an air-cooled transverse in-line four cylinder engine motorcycle made by Honda over several generations for year models 1969-2003 as well as 2007 with an upright or standard riding posture. It is often called the original Universal Japanese Motorcycle (UJM).

The CB750 is included in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Classic Bikes; was named in the Discovery Channel's "Greatest Motorbikes Ever;" was in The Art of the Motorcycle exhibition, and is in the UK National Motor Museum. The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. rates the 1969 CB750 as one of the 240 Landmarks of Japanese Automotive Technology.

The CB750 was the first motorcycle to be called a "superbike."
Actually, we had to buy 3 others from the guy so we could get our hands on this one! Restored to mostly stock, she now sounds, looks, and feels great. She's super light (lets just say she weighs less than some of our past girlfriends) and is a hoot to ride around town and back roads. All we can say is this; she may look small, but once you get this puppy in her powerband... hang on. If you've never ridden one of these, you will be pleasantly surprised. This sporty little beast is a barrel of fun to ride. Though, we have been taking it a little easy on her since she just had a fresh rebuild on the motor. We also upgraded the suspension, brakes, electronics and
controls. Come to think of it, we either upgraded, replaced, or repaired
everything on this baby! We wanted to build a unique and fun bike to
ride while still maintaining some of what we consider true 'RD spirit'.
With many custom pieces made of fiberglass or aluminum, not only does it run great but shes quite a bit lighter too. They definitely wont be able to keep up and only way they will be able to find you is to follow that little trail of blue two-stroke perfume down the road.
The first of the real giant killers

Introduced in 1968, the Yamaha YAS1 defies all motorcycle logic, even by today’s standards of miniaturization. As a development of the previous Yamaha roadster twin designs, the vertically split, twin-cylinder engine is compact and powerful, this in turn is wrapped in an equally diminutive frame that does its best to hold the wheels inline and weighs next to nothing in the bargain. Once on the move and buzzing away in its sharp power band however, the truth emerges, the 125cc two-stroke is more than a match for machinery several times the capacity. The main differences between the AS1 and the AS1-C are the high exhaust pipes, slightly raised front fender, the braced handlebar, and that the forks are covered with boots instead of the metal covers.
Dearly beloved, you can begin to wave good-bye to all those two-stroke roadsters we've known and loved for years. Kawasaki's KH400 triple has been laid away, and Suzuki has rung up the flower car for their two-stroke roadsters. The four-strokes have won the sales derby; more important, they have a better chance of winning the government emission tests. But before you get all teary and blow your nose, you should know that's all the bad news.
1972 HONDA CL498- Super Scrambler

SOLD- Missouri

This bad lil' mama jama started life out as a 1972 Honda CL450 Scrambler. We originally got her as a parts bike but figured since she only had about 1700 original miles, what the hell, lets build her up!

Stripped down to the frame and chopped off all unnecessary tabs and brackets (including the subframe) she was treated to the ol' pipe bender and welder trick. The motor got some love too. We sent to cylinders and head out to the pros over at Team Hansen Honda to get a work over, including a new valve train, 10.6:1 high compression pistons, and a bore to 498cc. She also got a new set of Mikuni carbs to fuel her fire, and a custom set of high side exhausts breathing it out.

When the 160 series were released they were labled both CB93 and CB96 as well as CB125 and CB160! Honda further confused observers by marking the whole series without the 'C' designator on the frame and engine numbers. CB160's were 'B160', while the CL and CA types were also similarly marked 'L160' and 'A160'.

The Honda motorcycle corp. of Japan released the Honda Express (NC50) to the North American market in 1977. This new bike was designed to enter the large market for scooters that developed following the 1973 oil crisis. As such it came with a fuel-efficient single-cylinder two-stroke engine. It was also designed to be simple to operate, as many owners would be inexperienced with or
intimidated by larger, more complex motorcycles. Honda accomplished this by using a fully automatic transmission and a small oil pump to self-mix the Express's oil and fuel, thus eliminating the need for premixing.
1972 HONDA CL450K5- PROJECT

The Honda CL450 was a 4-stroke 450cc street motorcycle built by Honda between 1967 and 1974. The CL designation indicated
this model to be the "Scrambler" version which implied some off-road capability
prior to actual dirt-bikes gaining popularity. The CL series of bikes were
actually street bikes with a higher rear fender, a braced handlebar, and a
high-mount exhaust.

The sister bike to the Honda CB450, the CL450 is the dual sport or
"scrambler" model of Honda's 444cc DOHC parallel twin engined motorcycle. Although the
difference between both models are mostly cosmetic, the CL450's higher pipes,
knobby tires, and aggressive styling were better suited for off-road riding.
Unlike some of those other cafe racers that look like modern bikes with classic lines, this beauty looks like a real classic with modern touches that has been very well cared for. With brand new rubber, race shifting pattern, and weighing in at only 357 lbs wet, you will be doing the ‘ton’ in no time flat. Not only that, but with upgraded suspension, tires, and brakes you’ll finally be able to carve those corners and slow down too! The CB450 was first shown in UK during the Diamond Jubilee Brighton Speed Trials of September 1965, traditionally held along the seafront. As the bike was newly imported, the engine was not run-in, so the appearance was a semi-competition demonstration sprint run for publicity ridden by (the late) Allan Robinson, MBE, a Honda staff member, recording a standing-start kilometre time of 30.1 seconds and a terminal speed of 100 mph (160 km/h).
